BPSC are proud to be launching a new service to club members after a successful application for a Sports Development Grant from Basildon Council.
Individual stroke analysis will be offered using underwater video technology. From the week commencing 12th June (first session will be on Thursday 15th June) 4 slots of 15 minutes each will be available weekly for swimmers from any squad except academy. The analysis will not be appropriate for academy swimmers, who will be working on improving basic technique on strokes, starts and turns. The use of in-depth underwater analysis is mainly to fine tune technique rather than develop basic skills.
Analysis will be conducted in the following way.
- A series of video recordings will be made of the swimmer performing their nominated stroke, start or turn.
- The reviewing member of the coaching team will analyse the footage outside of the training session in real time and in slow motion and identify the strengths and deficiencies of the stroke/start/turn.
- A report containing the coach’s findings, relevant still photographs copied from the footage, and some suggested corrective action will be emailed to both the swimmer and the appropriate squad coach.
As the analysis requires considerable additional work by the reviewing coach, there will be a charge of £20 per swimmer per stroke or other requested skill. Although some club members may feel that this sounds expensive, we are aware that some local commercial providers charge nearly three times this amount with no written feedback or report provided, so we are confident this is very fairly priced indeed. The analysis report is also provided directly to the swimmers coach which is an important aspect in working on any deficiencies in the swimmer’s stroke/start/turn over time.
The recordings will usually be made on a Thursday evening between 6.30 and 7.30pm but through liaison with Paul Eveleigh there may be an opportunity to capture footage at the end of a session during, for example, swim-down, when the pool is generally quieter (especially during early morning training). Also, when coaches are absent or we are running on reduced coach numbers due to, for example, nationals, it may be necessary to adjust the timings of the recording, but this will be done in liaison with swimmers or parents as appropriate.
All recording sessions must be booked and paid for using your swimmers Club Organiser Account in the following way
- Go to the MERCHANDISE SETTING
- Select the DATE and TIME that you wish to book
- Pay for your swimmers session using your Credit card or PayPal
Only available sessions will be displayed (in 3 month blocks)
It is important to note that swimmers can only nominate one stroke or turn/ start for analysis per booking, as it will have an impact on the capacity of the coaches to analyse the footage in good time. We also ask that swimmers do not book more than one stroke in a two month period, in order to allow as many swimmers a chance to access the opportunity for analysis. We will fully review the initiative, and associated demand, 3 months in.
